Susan Carey Obituary

Susan Squiers Carey, 68, of Edwardsburg, died peacefully Saturday, June 1, 2024, in the comfort of her family’s presence.

Her life began August 15, 1955, in Niles, Michigan, the youngest of four children born to Glen and Joan Squiers.  She married Russ C. Carey in September 1980 in Cassopolis.

Susan was a fun-loving person who was full of life and generous and faithful to her friends and family.  Her beauty radiated like the sun and warmed the lives of so many.  At the moment of her passing, she had a wildflower tucked behind her ear and the church bells were ringing.  We like to imagine that she danced her way to the other side, feeling the freedom of movement once again.  Please celebrate her life with music, good food, and a colorful sunset.

Susan will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Russ C. Carey of Edwardsburg; three daughters, Jessica (Edi) Assoumou of France, Joanna (Sonny) Craig of Dowagiac, Kimberly Davis of Arkansas; two sons, Conan (Vicki) Michel of Florida, Russell (Lisa) Carey of Edwardsburg; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; one sister, Lisa (Ronald) Smith of Niles; one brother, Kent Squiers of Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Craig Squiers.

Family and friends will gather on a date and at a time to be announced.

Susan will be laid to rest in Reames and Norton Cemetery.
