Ruby Lee Wolverton

Ruby Lee Wolverton peacefully departed this life on July 4, 2026. She was born on August 9, 1933, in Canton, Mississippi, to Robert C. and Georgia (Gross) Holloman, their only much-loved child.

Ruby made her home in Dowagiac, Michigan, for nearly 75 years. Soon after making Dowagiac her home, she became a devoted member of Second Baptist Church and remained faithful until the Lord called her home. Her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life.

Ruby dedicated many years of service as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Dowagiac Nursing Home (now The Timbers of Cass County), where she compassionately cared for others until her retirement at the age of 62.

She was united in marriage to Walter Wolverton, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her beloved parents in 2000.

Ruby’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her seven devoted children: Patricia Randle (Lonny), Robert Wolverton (Marilyn), Dwayne Wolverton, Adriene Rucker (Kenneth), Phyllis Wolverton, Regina Wolverton, and Douglas Wolverton.

She also leaves thirteen grandchildren: Shanee McElveen (Chris), Sean Hill (Shannon), Jerren Randle, Lakeshia Jimmerson, Elizabeth Garcia (Luis), Tyla Cosey, Julian Wolverton, Kendall Rucker, Demetrias Wolverton, Elyse Wolverton, Nicole Taylor, Lamaya Davis, and Renee Wolverton; fourteen great-grandchildren; three nieces, Eunice Murray, Mary Thurmun, and Rebecca Johnson; one nephew, Bradford Wolverton; and a host of loving great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her love and humor.

Ruby will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her caring spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those blessed to have known her.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service at noon 12:00 p.m., in 2nd Baptist Church, 203 South Paul Street, Dowagiac, Michigan 49047. Ruby will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
