Richard Koziel Obituary

Richard Daniel Koziel, fondly known as Rocky, age 84, of Wheaton, Illinois, formerly of Galien, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 3, 2021.

His life began December 11, 1936 in Chicago, Ilinois to Sigmund and Angeline (Buczyna) Koziel, who both preceded him in death.  He married Regina Dolores Suberlak on May 9, 1959 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Three Oaks, Michigan.  She preceded him in death on June 21, 2015.

Richard served our country in the 1950s.  He spent his entire career at Weldun International and retired as a Vice President of the company in 1996.

Throughout the years, Richard loved playing and watching sports.  He was an avid fan of Notre Dame and most Chicago teams. One of his fondest memories was attending a White Sox World Series game in 2005.  He enjoyed golfing and once made a hole-in-one. He also bowled in a league and scored a perfect 300 (although he claimed it was a 301 because he scored 300 and won!). He also enjoyed watching game shows on TV and his favorite was Cash Cab.

Richard will be greatly missed by family and friends.  He is survived by his children, Kathleen Koziel of Wheaton, Illinois, Donald (Jessica) Koziel of Greentown, Indiana, and Dennis Koziel of Three Oaks, Michigan; six grandchildren, Peter (Samantha Rinehart) Vander Aa IV, Nicholas (Alasha) Koziel, Angelica (Giovan) Guida, Jillian Koziel, Kelsey Harrington, and Madison (Josh Money) Koziel; eleven great-grandchildren: Cameron, Maddalyn, Bristol, Isaac, Ryder, Portia, Petey, Stella, Isaiah, Samson, and Rowan; siblings, John Koziel, Vickie Parrett, Patty Hemphill; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mickie Smith, Bernie Koziel, Annette Lashua, and Joseph Koziel.

Immediate family will observe a private remembrance.  A celebration of life memorial will be held on date, to be announced.

Mr. Koziel will be laid to rest, with his wife of fifty-six years, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Three Oaks.

The family prefers contributions in Richard’s memory be made to St. Mary of the Assumption 28 West Ash Street, Three Oaks, Michigan, 49128 or the American Diabetes Association, Post Office Box 7023, Merrifield, Virginia, 22116-7023.
