Myrtice Ann “Myrt” Allison, 92, of Vandalia, died Sunday, January 19, 2025 in her home, surrounded by family.
Her life began September 29, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois the one of five children born to Fred and May Vierke. She married Orval Allison, Jr. February 18, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois.
Myrt was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and worked for Kodak. She and Orval moved to Donnell Lake the day following their wedding, where she lived for the rest of her life. She worked as a teller first, then as a bookkeeper for the superintendent of Cassopolis Public Schools. Myrt was an avid reader. She enjoyed needlework and taking care of her beloved dogs. She and Orval enjoyed extensive international travels and camping in the United States. She was a skilled cook and knew how to enjoy a glass of wine. For the most part, she was a quiet and private person.
Myrt will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Orval Allison Jr. of Vandalia; one daughter, Gretchen (John Pinto) Allison of Vandalia; three sons, Douglas (Mary Brown) Allison of Vandalia, Konrad (Tracy) Allison of Vandalia, Gary (Brenda) Allison of Niles; seven grandchildren, Nate (Courtney) Allison of Linden, Ashley Allison of Sumnerville, Cole Allison of Chicago, Illinois, Vincent (Sienna) Pinto of Kalamazoo, Marie (Sam Starck) Pinto of Chicago, Illinois, Julie Allison of Chicago, Illinois, Noah Allison of Denver, Colorado; three great grandchildren, Jayce, Addy, Saylor; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents and her siblings.
The family will observe a private remembrance.
Myrt will be laid to rest in Birch Lake Cemetery.
