Marvin Lewandowski Obituary

Marvin Eugene Lewandowski, age 87, of Dowagiac, died peacefully Sunday, March 28,2021, in the comfort of his family’s presence.

His life began August 23, 1933 in Pullman, Michigan. the youngest of six children born to Andrew and Sophia Lewandowski.  He is survived by his wife Pearl; one son Dale Lewandowski; one daughter Cheryl “Cherie” (William) Miller; three grandsons, Tyler Chavez, Travis Chavez and Robert Miller; three step grandchildren, Amanda, Amber and Ryan Kotyuk ; and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; three daughters, Dawn Lewandowski, Denise Lewandowski and Debra “Debbie” Kotyuk (Rory); two sons, Michael and Dennis Lewandowski.

Marvin was blessed to have two great loves in his life, Joyce who met our Lord in April 1976 and Pearl with whom he would have celebrated a 45th wedding anniversary in August.  He was a devoted husband and beloved father, a leader, and a mentor to the troubled and brokenhearted. Unless he was at work, you never saw him without his Perky - many will remember seeing his 6’4’ frame with his tiny 5’1’ wife taking their long walks throughout Dowagiac.

He was General Manager for Nylon Extruders for seventeen years but when they decided to relocate to Indiana, he did not want to leave the great community of Dowagiac.  He took the position of head custodian for the Dowagiac School System (Patrick Hamilton and the High School) in 1976, retiring in 1994.  After his retirement, he volunteered at Lee Memorial Hospital and also with the Council on Aging delivering commodities throughout Cass County. He spent the last few years enjoying his Tuesday nights and Saturdays at the Dowagiac Compost site - Marvin was a talker and loved the people from his community.

He is on the other side of Jordan with the many members of his family that proceeded him and is waiting with them to greet the rest of us when we travel our last mile.

The family will observe a private remembrance.

To honor and in tribute to Marvin, the family prefers contributions in his memory be made to assist with final expenses.
