Karen Sue Coleman, age 81, of Vandalia, died Sunday, March 21, 2021 in her home.  Her life began October 18, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, the fifth of six children born to Glenn and Charlotte Allison.

Karen loved nothing more than cooking and feeding friends and family.  Her baked beans will be missed at cousins’ weekend. She also loved to travel and was a dedicated snowbird, heading to her home in Tavares, Florida, as soon as the Michigan winter threatened each October.  She was an avid card and game player; backgammon and Yahtzee were among her very favorites.

Most of all, Karen loved the Lord and was a member of Pleasant View Church of Christ.

Karen will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She is survived by one brother, Earl Allison of Vandalia; three daughters, Sherry Hyatte and Wendy (Steve) Grace, both of Vandalia, Kathy (Lisa) Coleman of Marcellus; seven grandchildren, Courtney Hyatte of Columbia, Maryland, Erin (Gabe) D’Vincent of Austin, Texas, Ryan Grace of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Nathaniel Coleman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Anthony (Aubri) Coleman of Mesa, Arizona, Karleena Byram of LaPorte, Indiana, Michael Stanton of Decatur, Indiana; four great grandchildren; Parker and Alexis D’Vincent, Haylie and Ashton Coleman; former husband, Marvin (Pam) Coleman of San Tan Valley, Arizona; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and one son, David Wayne Coleman.

The family will observe a private remembrance.  Mrs. Coleman’s remains will be laid to rest in Birch Lake Cemetery.

The family prefers contributions in memory of Karen be made to the Cass County Council on Aging, Post Office Box 5, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.

I will forever be thankful for her friendship with my grandma, Cleytus D.  Karen was a wonderful Christian woman and was loved deeply by those around her.  I am sure it was a beautiful reunion when Grandma saw her again in heaven.
I will be praying for your family.  Thank you for sharing her with us for so many years in Florida.
