John “Jack” Thaddis Phillips, 95, of Three Oaks, died peacefully Sunday, March 14, 2021.
His life began March 31, 1925 in Mt Vernon, Ohio, one of eleven children born to Dean and Lula Phillips. He married Helen Joan Gift September 22, 1946 in Converse, Indiana. She preceded him in death.
At age 17, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably during World War II aboard the minesweeper, the U.S.S. Terror. Later, he and his brother, Bud, owned and operated the Phillips Eat ‘n Bowl in Three Oaks.
Jack will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline (James) Tessman of Benton Harbor; one son, Paul Phillips of Argos, Indiana; four grandsons, Byron Tessman, Michael Phillips, Christopher (Amanda) Phillips, Benjamin (Patricia) Phillips; six great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Norman (Linda) Phillips of Three Oaks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded by nine siblings; Bernita Hollopeter, Robert Phillips, Mildred Phillips, Hester Fortune, Ruby Gross, William Phillips, Richard Phillips, Shirley Todd, and Beverly Dobson.
The family will observe a private remembrance with Mr. Phillips being laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks where he will be accorded full Military Honors.
