Jacqueline Smith Obituary

Jacqueline Jean Smith, 74, of Cassopolis died peacefully Monday, September 29, 2025.

Her life began March 4, 1951, in South Bend, the first of two children born to Daniel and Barbara (Ward) Piekarski.

G-ma Jacque was a devoted grandmother, a constant cheerleader and a source of endless warmth and support. Her greatest joy in life was being in the stands at every sporting event, clapping proudly at school concerts and graduations or packing for the next family vacation. She was always there with a smile on her face and love in her heart. Jacque loved Halloween. She made sure it was a magical time for all her grand-children; full of laughter, memories, and love.

Jacque was also known in the community for her twenty- five years of Thanksgiving dinners that were prepared by her, her kids, her grand-children and family for people in need. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering support. Her presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who knew her, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Jacqueline will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Lynn Smith; her son, Jason Paul Smith; one sister, Janice Marie Clark of Cassopolis; one brother, John David Merrill of Texas; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Brown, Justin "J.J."  Smith, Xander Smith Jamie Smith, Ella Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Lyla Smith, Adara Smith; one great granddaughter, Aria Jayde and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd “Butch” Merrill, daughter Jamie Lynn Smith, and her arch nemesis/best friend/ex-husband, Jerry Wayne Smith.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Jacque’s life by sharing memories and a meal on a date and at a time to be announced.

The family prefers contributions in memory of Jacqueline be made to the family in care of the funeral home to offset funeral expenses.
