Floyd Foston, Jr. Obituary

Floyd Foston, Jr., age 70 of Cassopolis, died peacefully at home Monday, July 12, 2021.

He was born March 24, 1951 in Gary, Indiana to Floyd Sr. and Jeano Foston. He married Jacqueline Marie Sorsby July 25, 1987 in Vandalia, Michigan.

Floyd accepted Christ as a young adult at Chain Lake Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon. He continued his walk with Christ as an active member of The Church of Cassopolis.

Floyd's love for basketball started at an early age. He played throughout his school years, the collegiate level, and went on to play semi-pro. Along with playing semi-pro basketball, Floyd began his coaching career, which lasted over 25 years. He became an assistant coach for the Men's State Championship team at Covert High School in 1982. He then went on to coach and mentor for the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Boys & Girls Basketball Camps. Furthering his coaching career, Floyd became Athletic Director, the Head Coach of Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys and Girls teams for Cassopolis Public Schools. This awarded him the wonderful opportunity to coach both of his daughters. During Floyd's time coaching in Cassopolis, he won several Conference, District, and Regional championships; Coach of the Year and was named the Sports Fest All Star Head Coach for Michigan. Through his love for basketball, Floyd mentored young people in the community by opening up the gym many Saturdays for pick up games. The kids would often say, "Don't leave Mr. Foston open, because he doesn't miss!"

Floyd will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Jacqueline Foston of Cassopolis; two daughters, Nyrea (Charlie) Liferidge of Atlanta, Georgia, Jealyn Foston of Cassopolis; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Liferidge, Charlie Liferidge, Justyce Richmond; two sisters, Doris Irby of Hobart, Indiana, Alice Washington of Euless, Texas; stepmother, Michele Foston of Merriville, Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Tannette Turpin; and one brother, Julian "JuJu" Foston.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 2:00p.m. (Michigan time) in Apostolic Lighthouse, 30402 M62 West, Dowagiac, Michigan.
