Emma Bell Dishmon, age 93, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Friday, April 1, 2022 in the comfort of her family’s presence.
Her life began October 31, 1928 in Tunica, Mississippi, the second of fourteen children born to Lanier and Winnie Kimbrough. She married James E. Dishmon February 23, 1946 in Tunica, Mississippi. After fifty years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1996.
Emma was a true woman of faith who loved her church and all her family. She counted her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as her greatest accomplishments. Emma loved crossword and sudoku puzzles, watching her game shows and all sports.
Emma will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one son, James E. “Skipper” Dishmon, Jr. of South Bend; two daughters, Pamela Ann Dishmon of Cassopolis, Valarie A. Pompey of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter in law, Sharla Roth; one son in law, Tony L. Pompey; six grandchildren, Shawnta (Jordan) Tepper, Symone F. Pompey, Anthony J. Pompey, James E. Dishmon III, Amber (Erick) Reyes, Meghan (Charles) Loutzenhiser; five great grandchildren, Jonathan Reyes, Erick Reyes, Serenity Reyes, Livee Loutzenhiser, Ensley Loutzenhiser; four sisters, Gladys Kimbrough, Anne Marion Curry, Charle Davis, Anna Laurie Morris; three brothers, Lanier Kimbrough, Gene (Juanita) Bracken, John Kimbrough; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tamara Dishmon; one great grandson, Chayse Loutzenhizer; five sisters, Lillian Marie Cheatham, Dessie Rae “Bounce” Rogers, Winnie Magnolia “Happy” Kimbrough, Octavia “Della” Christopher, Tommie Coleman; and one brother, Van S. Kimbrough.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Ann Catholic Church, 421 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.
Mrs. Dishmon will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis, Michigan.
The family prefers contributions in memory of Emma be made to the Daughters of Saint Ann, in care of Saint Ann Catholic Church, 421 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
