Eddie Mose, Sr. Obituary

“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth” – Psalm 34:1

Eddie James Mose Sr. praised his way into heaven on December 7, 2025, at his home with his loved ones’ praising too.

Eddie James Mose was born to Doc Mose Jr. and Jessie Lee Thomas August 1, 1944, in Gosport, Alabama.

He grew up in Mobile, Alabama until he was fifteen years of age, when he moved to Cassopolis, Michigan and made his home with his cousin and her family, where he learned masonry and later built his home.

Eddie graduated from Cassopolis High school in 1962 and was a forever Ranger fan. He played sports and then in his later years he watched his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.  Eddie was an avid sports fan, from amateur to professional, high school to NBA and he traveled many miles to watch his family and friends’ families compete.  In his later years he took up golf and Monday was his golf day.

Eddie attended Indiana University for one year and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years. And saw a lot of the world.  He earned the rank of E5 Second Class Machinist’s Mate in two years.  After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Cassopolis working at Clark from 1964 until 1966 and again from 1969 until 1980. He started at Carpenter in March, 1984 and retired from there in July, 2019.

Every summer Eddie hit the road to spend his vacation with his niece and nephews.  His car knew the way to Mobile with him sleeping.  He loved spending time with his family, and there was never a family function that he was not attending whenever he was in town, whether baby showers, weddings, graduations, family reunions, kids’ birthday parties, anniversaries, Martin Luther King programs, Juneteenth, Easter Egg Hunts, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In June, 1976 Eddie Married Helen Lee.  They nurtured four children.  Eddie’s life was a testament to his unwavering love for his family and his passion for forgiveness and his dedication to his church and community. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Vandalia, with the Reverend Michael Anderson his pastor, by way of Community Baptist Church.  He was a lifetime member of the Lt. William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 in Cassopolis and served in many roles including as coordinator of the funeral Honor Guard.

Eddie was a person who never knew a stranger.  If someone said “Hello” to him it turned into a long conversation.  It was not advisable to go anywhere with him and be in a hurry, as Eddie maintained many long-term friendships from childhood through classmate from Alabama and Michigan.  He even met for lunch sometimes.  Once a friend was a friend forever.

Believing in hard work and second chances, Eddie was a father to the fatherless and tired to instill that hard work paid off.  He was also a debater and knew the world of sport and would debate with anyone about players.  Once Google came out, we were in trouble.  He was a walking encyclopedia.  Most of the time he was right, but if he was caught being incorrect it was another debate.

Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a giving husband to Helen (Lee) Mose for forty-nine years, a loving father to Eddie Mose Jr., Katina (Adrian) Clabin, and Diriki Mose. His role model extended with grace and joy to his grandchildren, Nicolas Davis, D’Lan Mose, Ky’ana Buck, Imani Brown, Ky’ante Buck, Akira Mose and Zaire Mose. Eddie’s love for his grandchildren knew no bounds. He also celebrated with his great-grandchildren, Adam Quinn, Corbin Davis, Trace Davis and Kalon Buck.

Eddie extended his love to his in-law, Lucienne Lee, James (Nora) Lee, Betty Ash, Bea Lee, Shirley Lee, Jimmy (Cindy) Lee, and David Lee, all of whom will together hold dear the memories of his laughter. His presence in the lives of his sister’s children was a source of comfort and joy that were those like his siblings, Willam Joe Smith, Lonnie (Victoria) Smith, Daren (Cassandra) Smith and Jan Smith.

Eddie’s presence was also a source of comfort and joy to his longtime friends since childhood, his Navy buddies, Lee nieces and nephews, and cousins and friends.

Those gone on before whom he loved were his father, Dock Mose Jr, his sweet mother Jessie Lee Thomas, his wonderful sister Emma Smith, and his daughter whom he missed daily, Kimberly Louise Brown.

As we bid “See you later” to Eddie the husband, Eddie the dad, pops, Eddie the Papa, Granddad, Grandpa, pop-pop, Eddie the uncle, brother-in-law, Deacon, confidant, classmate, Navy buddy, puddin, Bullwinkle, friend, cousin, or ex-worker, whatever his relationship was to you, you have received these things from your relationship with him: Ephesians 4:31-32 is a New Testament passage advising Christians to discard negative emotions like bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, replacing them with positive actions: being kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving each other, just as God, through Christ has forgiven them.  This verse encourage believers to move from a life of malice and division to one of grace compassion and unity, emphasizing forgiveness as the core principle, mirroring God’s forgiveness in Christ.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in Pleasant View Church of Christ, 60550 Crooked Creed Road (corner of M-60), Cassopolis with his pastor, the Reverend Michael Anderson of First Baptist Church of Vandalia officiating.  The Honor Guard of Lt. William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704, Cassopolis, of which Eddie was an active member, along with members of the U.S. Navy will accord Eddie Military Honors following the service.  Eddie will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Sumnerville.
