Betty L. Ackerman

Betty Lou Ackerman, age 96, of Cassopolis, passed away October 28, 2024 in Niles.

Her life began October 7, 1928 in LaGrange, Indiana born to Samuel and Lucille Wonders. Later, Betty was adopted by her mother’s husband Knight Whitman. She married James Schuyler Ackerman March 18, 1948 in Angola, Indiana. After almost sixty-five years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2013.

Betty and Jim lived in Cassopolis since 1957, coming from South Bend, Indiana. She was a licensed Real Estate Broker in Indiana and was associated with her husband at Jim Ackerman Realty in Cassopolis. Betty was an active member of the Cassopolis United Methodist Church, served as music chairman and sang in the choir for many years. She was also active in Cass County Council on Aging.

Mrs. Ackerman will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by two grandsons, Greg (Stephanie) Lozier, Jeff (Sharon) Lozier, both of Texas; two great grandsons, Eli Lozier and Gabriel Lozier. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by their daughter, Belinda Lou Ackerman Lozier in 2003.

The family will observe a private remembrance.
